# George Orwell Writing Advice
Do not use complicated, fancy words. But increase your vocabulary so that a word is available when you need to use it.
In *Politics and the English Language*, Orwell states:
> How many words are in this sentence? Can I make it shorter?
So you just do that and keep doing it until you can't make it shorter anymore. Eventually you will be expressing this idea with the simplest language you possibly can.
