# Measurement is Fundamental
It can at times seems like measuring a system is not a fundamental action that you can take. A system exists "out there" in reality, and by measuring it we are just probing a bit to gather some information. The system was there whether we probed it or not, so measurement is just kind of a messy little side effect required to build our understanding of the system.
