# Universal Explainer People are **universal explainers** and [universal constructors](Universal%20Constructor.md). We explain stuff. We explain our lives, science, how things work. We create new explanations: new theories. Creativity is what we have, and what animals (and computers!) lack. We just don’t understand it. We have no “theory” of creativity and we know this because we have never programmed a creative computer. [Universality](Universality.md) implies that humans and AGI's will never be anything other than equal. The **key insight** here is that just as there are universal Turing machines that can simulate any computable function, there are **universal explainers** that can understand any explorable phenomenon in the universe. If a phenomenon obeys the laws of physics, humans can, in principle, develop explanations to understand it. This is analogous to the way a UTM can simulate any program. Deutsch believes humans are universal explainers because of a crucial property of **explanations**: they are **self-correcting**. If an explanation is wrong or incomplete, humans can, through criticism, testing, and refinement, eventually arrive at a better or more accurate explanation.
