# Creativity Series (Outline) # Goal Create an `n` part series that deep dives creativity. The entry point (i.e. the "hook") will be the slightly contrarian take that current AI techniques are not creative. I want to write an essay on why I do not believe that current AI is creative. This will help me flesh out my thinking in terms of Peter Theil's concept of **Contrarian True Beliefs**. ### Sub Goals 1. Improve ability to critically think and reason (in both writing, but also in real time) 2. Improve ability to read research papers and implement them in code. 3. Improve understanding of Deep Learning and LLM Space # Outline The general flow is roughly going to be: * Introduce the **problem**: We have recently been flooded with new AI techniques that are being heralded as "creative". At first glance it seems like these *are creative*. Then, drop **the hammer**: explain that these are not creative. This is our problem - to explain *why* they are not creative. * You will then address these one by one: 1. LLMS - they are not creative. Attack this via epistemological grounds. 2. Diffusion - Same thing? (this should hopefully be an easier article to write) * Interlude - touch on: * Intelligence * World Models & Abstraction * RL - may require a different approach * Alpha go, Mu Zero * What approaches may work more effectively? * Evolutionary approaches General notes: * You can address certain concepts *lightly* when needed and then do deep dives later on. * should you touch on hardware, universality, computation? So the outline will be: 1. [*Introduction - Outline*](*Introduction%20-%20Outline*.md) 2. [*Are LLMs Creative? - Outline*](*Are%20LLMs%20Creative?%20-%20Outline*.md) 3. [*Are Diffusion Models Creative - Outline*](*Are%20Diffusion%20Models%20Creative%20-%20Outline*.md) # Need to put somewhere * Emergence - what part of this series would that logically fit in? * [#119 – Creativity: Our Only Way Forward - by Arjun Khemani](https://open.substack.com/pub/arjunkhemani/p/119-creativity-our-only-way-forward?r=qjud&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post)
